“What matters most is trusting in the light of your being, the truth of your soul’s purpose and sharing the meaning of your life with others so that they can see what’s possible. Doing it in love, with respect and integrity, understanding and kindness, and grace and mercy uplifts the whole of humanity to our truth and authentic selves.” (Kim Fenneman)

The world is crazy and chaotic, loud and noisy, troublesome and exhausting on most days that it seems never-ending. If only to be reinforced on all our daily news sources or social media feeds. All the turmoil and tragedies can be overwhelming at times. Where is the peace? Where is the love? Where is the hope? Where is the community?
All the external noise will always be there in some form or another, but we also have our own internal noise. The noise in our heads and hearts that continuously repeat itself, sometimes getting louder, sometimes a gentle whisper that we can’t hear from all the other noise around us. The noise of our insecurities, our hurts, our pain, our fears and our doubts. But also, the noise of our triumphs, our small victories, and our little wins that only we know about.
So much noise to sift through every day. It can be exhausting. It is exhausting. So, what truly matters to you? What truly matters to you as the person living and breathing in this moment? What truly matters to you in your soul? Not for your spouse or partner, your kids, your parents or anyone else. You! What truly matters to you without ALL the noise?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? If not, why not? If so, how long ago was it? If it was in your early 20’s and you’re a couple of decades removed or even a few years removed, then I’m guessing you’re a different person now. Especially over the past 5-10 years, many of us are completely different people. We can see that in our friends, family, and neighbors. So, what mattered back then has probably shifted a bit. Some values change over time because you change over time. You’ve grown, you’ve gained wisdom, you’ve had more experiences to measure life by, and you’ve felt many more emotions that have influenced how you see things now. Life is constantly changing, evolving and growing for each of us and if we don’t stop and ask ourselves what truly matters than what are we doing here? Just going through the motions? Just surviving? Yes, many of us are in that boat. I’ve been in that boat. Surviving seems like the only thing we can do. But is it?
That’s why asking yourself the question, “what truly matters to me” is so very, very important. It provides a solid foundation for who you are, what you stand for and who you want to be in your life. It gives you lanes to walk in and to know which ones to turn away from. It gives you absolute permission to say “no, thank you” to something even if it looks and sounds great on paper. It gives you clear boundaries to work from and allows you to adhere to those boundaries without guilt. It gives you undeniable freedom to be exactly who you were meant to be. Who you are in this moment. Who you want to be in the future. It gives you permission to stand up for what you believe in despite the opinions of others. Their opinions are just that, theirs. To be grounded in your core values, that’s all that matters. Leave the noise that others project with them. When you know your true values and are actively living out your true values, you'll walk in confidence, calm, and with undeniable grace and peace. And then, hopefully others will want to do the same thing. Let’s walk in our own light so that others can find theirs, too.
We each have a purpose, a meaning to fulfill here on earth. I believe that. Some of us know what it is at a very young age and some of us spend a lifetime figuring it out. I’m in the latter end, but maybe, just maybe this is what I’m meant to do. Help shine a light on what matters most so that you can find it within you and then help others find theirs.
What truly matters to you? Let your values lead you, direct you and keep you on the path of who you truly are, what you stand for and who you are becoming. Walk in peace and confidence knowing that you are living each day based on the values that matter most to you. Walk in faith, knowing that you’re walking on a solid foundation. The foundation that is aligned with who you truly are, who you were meant to be. Trust it. Believe it. Believe in yourself.
Let’s walk this road together, leaning on our values to lead the way and supporting one another to stay aligned to what’s true so that we can shine our lights brightly.
